PetrolPuppy mobile app (iOS & Android)
PetrolPuppy ("we", "us", or "the app") is operated by Josh Salway, an Australian sole trader, and is published as a native iOS app and a native Android app. This policy explains what information PetrolPuppy collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
A separate web app privacy policy will apply once the web app is publicly available.
Summary
- No account required. PetrolPuppy works without a sign-up.
- Your location stays on your device. It is used only to find nearby stations.
- No tracking across other apps or websites. We do not use the iOS Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or equivalent Android identifiers for tracking.
- Third parties. Free users see ads served by Google AdMob. Pro users do not. Subscription status is managed by RevenueCat.

Information we collect
Information you give us. PetrolPuppy does not require you to create an account. We do not collect names, email addresses, or contact information unless you choose to email us directly.
Approximate or precise location. When you grant location permission, the app reads your current location to show fuel stations near you. Your location is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You can deny or revoke location permission at any time from your device settings; the app still works using a default region.
Subscription status. If you upgrade to Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to verify that a valid subscription exists and to map it to an anonymous device identifier so Pro features stay enabled across app launches.
Advertising (free tier only).If you have not upgraded to Pro, you see banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect a limited set of identifiers and device information in accordance with Google's policies. On iOS, you control App Tracking Transparency separately. PetrolPuppy does not prompt for ATT because it does not track users for personalised advertising.
Information from public sources. PetrolPuppy displays retail fuel prices sourced from public state and territory fuel price feeds and licensed broker feeds. This data is about businesses, not about you, and is not collected from app users.
How we use information
We use information only to:
- Show you nearby fuel stations and prices.
- Keep your Pro subscription status accurate.
- Show ads to free-tier users.
We do not sell, rent, or share your information for marketing purposes.

Children
PetrolPuppy is rated 4+ on the App Store and Everyone on Google Play. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Data retention
Because we do not require an account, we hold no personal profile of you on our servers. Subscription status is held by RevenueCat for the lifetime of the subscription plus any reconciliation window required by Apple or Google.
Your choices
- Stop location sharing: revoke location permission in iOS Settings or Android system settings. The app continues to function with a default region.
- Stop personalised ads:upgrade to Pro to remove ads entirely, or use your platform's "Limit Ad Tracking" / "Opt out of Ads Personalisation" controls.
- Delete the app: removing PetrolPuppy removes all local state on your device. There is no server-side account to delete.
International users
PetrolPuppy is operated from Australia. If you use the app outside Australia, your data may be processed by third-party providers in countries with different privacy laws (notably the United States, where AdMob and RevenueCat are hosted). By using the app you consent to that processing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The effective date at the top of this document will change accordingly. Material changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
